2003 Honors and Awards
Faculty and staff in the Department of Biostatistics have received several
honors and awards over the past year. Congratulations to Rod, Susan, Raghu,
Bob and Ann!
Professor Roderick
Little:
Professor Roderick Little was awarded the SPH Excellence in Research
Award in recognition of his distinguished career and outstanding
contributions to theoretical and applied research. Rod was nominated for
this award based on his contributions to statistical research, collaborative
research, student involvement in research, and national leadership. The
award was presented at Convocation on April 25, 2003.
Professor Susan
Murray:
Professor Susan Murray was awarded the SPH Excellence in Teaching
Award, recognizing her many outstanding contributions in teaching
and mentorship. This award is adjudicated by the School of Public Health
Alumni Society Board of Governors. The award was presented at Convocation
on April 25, 2003.
Professor Trivellore
Raghunathan
Professor Trivellore Raghunathan’s election as a new Fellow of the
American Statistical Association was announced at the 2003 Joint Statistical
Meetings in San Francisco. He was elected for fundamental contributions
to the theory and application of statistics to sample surveys and epidemiology;
for outstanding teaching of statistics at basic and advanced levels; and
for editorial and other services to the profession.
Professor Bob
Wolfe
Professor Robert Wolfe’s election as a new Fellow of the American
Statistical Association was announced at the 2003 Joint Statistical Meetings
in San Francisco. He was elected for leadership in applications of statistical
science to the analysis of transplant registry data; and for excellence
in mentoring.
Anne Jackson:
Anne Jackson was awarded the 2003
Excellence in Staff Service Award. This annual award is made to staff
members that excel in their job within the School of Public Health.
Student Awards
Each year, the Biostatistics Department awards its students for outstanding
achievements. The 2002/2003 winners are:
Karen Conneely and Zheng Yuan for the
Best Performance on the Biostatistics Ph.D. Part I Qualifying Exam Award
Lu Wang for the Outstanding First Year Masters in Biostatistics
