Xihong Lin awarded Presidents' Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies
Xihong Lin, a former University of Michigan Professor of Biostatistics, has won the Presidents' Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS), which was presented to her at the Joint Statistical Meetings in Seattle, Washington. This is an important and prestigious award offered by COPSS, and a description can be found at the web site http://www.imstat.org/awards/copss.htm.
The award was given to Xihong for seminal contributions to statistical methodology and theory for longitudinal data and clustered survival data, including nonparametric kernel and spline methods and semiparametric regression methods, mixed effects models, and measurement error models; for statistical applications in health sciences; for outstanding editorial and professional services; for founding the highly successful ENAR mentoring workshop for junior faculty in biostatistics. Xihong spent several years in the department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan, from 1994 to 2005, as Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor before her departure for Harvard last fall. It is with great pleasure that we, her friends and colleagues here at Michigan, congratulate her for this prestigious award and her outstanding accomplishments.

2006 Graduating Student Gift Campaign - It’s Your Choice, Make It!
Every year, the School of Public Health organizes the Graduating Student Gift Campaign. The campaign gives graduates the opportunity to give back to SPH before moving on with their careers. This year’s theme, It’s Your Choice, Make It!, encouraged students to decide what to support at UM SPH.Graduates could make donations to various department specific and/or school-wide funds. Two funds specific to the Biostatistics Department are the Cornell Scholarship Fund and the Biostatistics Student Development Fund.
This year’s graduating class of 2006 more than tripled last year’s participation rate with 86% of the graduates contributing gifts or pledges. All of the donations were matched by an anonymous alumni donor. Our Department had the largest jump in participation under the leadership of student champion Laura Roede and with the assistance of Jack Kalbfleisch, chair, and Amanda Ring, student services coordinator.
Thank you to everybody who helped make this year’s campaign and huge success! |
