Thank you for considering study at the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. The programs of study available in our department provide an outstanding opportunity for training and education in biostatistics. I hope you will spend some time exploring our website and learning more about us.

Biostatistics is an exciting and growing field that makes indispensable contributions in many areas of public health, medicine, genetics, and all the biomedical sciences. The research that our faculty and students conduct is helping to create a safer and healthier world for us to live in. Students in our department learn about statistical theory and methods and also gain direct exposure to important applications of biostatistics to many areas of science.

The department has more than twenty faculty members who, together with their students, are actively engaged in research on theory and methods in biostatistics. Faculty and students also play an integral role as collaborators on major projects with researchers from public health, medicine, and the social and biological sciences. Our department is known for its knowledgeable, approachable, and accessible faculty.

Our students and faculty come from all over the world and the department has a very welcoming environment. The University of Michigan is located in Ann Arbor, a vibrant community of 100,000 with an outstanding cultural and sports environment and the amenities of a city many times its size.

We believe that the department, the School of Public Health, the University of Michigan, and the city of Ann Arbor provide exceptional opportunities for graduate and post-graduate study. If you have an interest in public health, biology, or medicine and a strong quantitative orientation, I strongly encourage you to consider our department for your post-graduate education.
