Academic Resources

This will mark the inaugural year for the post-doctoral Kellogg Health Scholar Program - Community Tracks in community-based participatory research (CBPR) at Morgan. Each scholar will receive a two-year postdoctoral experience. Given its unique position as an urban HBCU (historically black ccollege/university), the school offers a variety of opportunities to engage in community-based participatory research, providing the scholar with considerable flexibility in planning out the fellowship experience with support and mentorship from the school as well as community partners. Faculty advisors/mentors and research opportunities and linkages can be made via the Site Director, Dr. Sydnor, and/or the Practice Coordinator. Scholars have access to courses, seminars and other educational opportunities in the school to gain knowledge and skills relevant for community-based participatory research. The School's vision and mission, as well as curriculum, are built upon commitment to community engagement and partnership.

A faculty advisor, to be selected by the scholar(s), may come from any of 5 SCHP academic concentrations - Biostatistics; Environmental Health Sciences; Epidemiology; Health, Behavior and Society; and Health Policy and Management. Scholars may also identify mentors outside of the school, in consultation with the Site Director. There are also research centers throughout the university that will provide opportunities for mentors and community partnership experiences.

Community Resources

The School of Community Health and Policy, while still a growing institution, already has a number of current partnerships with community organizations across the city of Baltimore with whom the scholar can connect. These partnerships are located in Northeast Baltimore, South Baltimore and West Baltimore. The networks continue to extend as other communities in the city and Baltimore County would like to evolve long lasting partnerships. The partnerships continue to grow along with the faculty. We have active internship programs at the Masters and doctoral level that can also serve as opportunities for partnership by the scholar.
