Call For Proposals
University of Michigan Center for Integrative Approaches to Health Disparities [CIAHD]
Requests for Pilot Grant Proposals
The Center for Integrative Approaches to Health Disparities [CIAHD] is pleased to announce it 5th Call for Pilot proposals. The CIAHD will provide pilot funding for innovative research consistent with the general theme of the integration of social and biological factors in understanding minority health and health disparities.
The overall goals of CIAHD are to enhance our understanding of the causes of disparities in health by race/ethnicity and to develop more effective ways to eliminate disparities.
The objectives of the CIAHD Pilot Grants are:
Although core CIAHD projects focus on cardiovascular disease and related conditions, we encourage submissions in other substantive research areas as long as they are consistent with the general themes of (1) incorporating factors at multiple levels, (2) integrating social and biological factors, and (3) addressing questions relevant to minority health and health disparities. Both research proposals and community-engagement activities related to the themes above are eligible.
Inter-institutional pilots with our partners Jackson State University and University Mississippi Medical Center and interdisciplinary projects are encouraged.
Submit application as one single PDF document (including biosketches and budget) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Application must be received by October 29, 2013, 5:00pm eastern. Applicants will be notified by November 14, 2013.
Pilot Investigators will be required to regularly attend monthly CIAHD research seminars and be active participants in all future CIAHD activities (including attending other CIAHD events beyond the end of their pilot). They will also be required to regularly present their work at CIAHD meetings, submit annual reports of their progress (as well as a final pilot project report), and provide updates of publications and grant submissions related to the award. Awardees will also be expected to provide periodic updates to CIAHD on their progress and career development, as well as on any products related to their pilot, for as long as CIAHD is funded.
All Presentations and Publications resulting from pilot award funding must acknowledge the CIAHD in accordance with NIH Public Access Policy; suggested language includes "This research was supported in part by the Michigan Center for Integrative Approaches to Health Disparities P60 MD002249 funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities". PIs are also required to submit published manuscripts to NIH PubMed Central as required by NIH Public Access Policy NOT-OD-05-022
