Using the Enhanced Instructor’s Station in Auditorium, SPH II

Download this document as a PDF.

  • Please shut off the video projector when not in use; replacement lamps cost $400.
  • If the station is disconnected from a power source, it may be necessary to reset the switches on the plug strips located on the rear wall of both the left- and right-hand cabinets in the base of the station.
  • We have a new pushbutton control system for the LCD projector. The button panel is located on the overhead projector platform to the right of the podium. When you press the button in the upper left corner (labeled “PC/Laptop”) it will power on the projector and select the PC in the instructor’s station as the input source. Connecting a laptop to the cable on the front of the instructor’s station automatically switches the source to the laptop. (Conversely, disconnecting the laptop will restore input from the PC.)
  • To display the output of a laptop computer, connect a video cable from the connector on the front of the instructor’s station (illustrated below) to the video port on the rear of the laptop.

  • To enable the external video port on your laptop, hold down the small “Fn” key (often located to the left of the spacebar) while simultaneously pressing the appropriate function key (often F8, but sometimes F5; usually labeled CRT/LCD or with a small graphic image of a monitor screen). This is a three-way toggle: LCD display only; LCD plus external display; external display only. Please be patient; there can be a delay of a few seconds before the shift occurs.
  • The second button (“VCR/DVD”) also powers on the projector, but changes the input source to the VCR/DVD player located in the cabinet below the button panel.
  • The third button (“Doc. Camera”) selects an external video source (such as a document camera; see the illustration above).
  • The fourth button on the left (“proj. off”) will shut off the LCD projector.
  • The upper two buttons in the right column (“vol up” and “vol down”) raise and lower the volume from the PC, laptop or VCR/DVD player.
  • The next button on the right (“blank screen”) will cause the projected image to go dark, but will not shut off the projector. Pressing any of the upper three buttons in the left column will restore the image.
