 From the Director

Welcome to the Center for Law, Ethics, and Health, an interdisciplinary research center focusing on how the law influences the health care and public health systems. Our goal, as set forth throughout this website, is to conduct empirical research on topics that affect the day-to-day delivery of medical care and public health services.

The Center will also provide a forum for anyone interested in how law influences health care and public health delivery. Our philosophy is to link academic research to health systems' practice, policy, and ethics to improve the delivery of health services to individual patients, discrete populations, and our communities.

We will inform, educate, and, at times, provoke visitors to the site. We have no intention of avoiding complex and contentious issues. Quite the contrary. For our inaugural event in April we have assembled a symposium to explore how the antagonism between attorneys and physicians affects patient care and how relations between the two professions can be improved.

We hope you return often to this site to learn about our activities. More than just visiting the site, however, we encourage you to contribute your observations and experiences. Our commitment is to engage stakeholder communities in a stimulating and productive dialogue about the legal issues that affect practitioners on a daily basis.

Sincerely,

Peter D. Jacobson
Director
