Providing Alternative Text Content for VideoVideo has become a very popular website feature, but it is important to keep in mind that some users are unable to consume video content for a variety of reasons:
This is why all multimedia, including videos, posted to the UM SPH website should provide alternative text content. Moreover, section 508 of the Americans with Disabilities Act stipulates that alternative text content should be provided for all audio and video content on educational and government-funded websites. Video captioning refers to a time-synced text file that runs along with the video. Video transcripts refers to an alternative text file containing what was said in the video. When submitting videos to SPH Web Services to be placed on the SPH website, please provide either captioning or a transcript. Captioning and Transcription Resources
