Using Windows Remote Desktop to access your SPH PC


Prerequisites

  • An SPH PC running Windows XP that can be left "on" and that is not being used by another person.
  • Contact SPH Computing Services (sph.help@umich.edu) to configure your computer to accept remote connections.
  • Write down the computer name of your SPH computer for use remotely.
  • Download and install the U-M Cisco VPN Client.

Connecting to your SPH computer

Connect to VPN

  • Launch the Cisco VPN and click connect to establish a connection. Use the off-campus choice if you are at home.
  • When prompted for username and password enter your Uniqname and Kerberos password

Connect to Computer

Run the Remote Desktop Client (Start Menu -> Programs -> Accessories -> Remote Desktop Connection) and enter your SPH computer name in the "Computer" field.

Click "Connect" and you will be presented with the login you see when at SPH. You are now connected to your computer. Login using your uniqname and active directory password; also, make sure that "Log on to:" says UMROOT.
