Algorithmic improvements in gene-mapping.

Abecasis GR and Zhao Y

Encyclopedia of Genetics, Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics (2005) Section 1.4:Gene Mapping

The analysis of human gene mapping data presents daunting computational challenges. Improvements in laboratory technology have motivated the development and refinement of increasingly sophisticated algorithms for the analysis of human pedigrees. We review and summarize some of the more important developments, and present a short history of the software packages that are now in widespread use in human gene mapping studies.
