See all awardees

The AIHF Clayton Endowed Scholarship is one of several endowed scholarships awarded by the American Industrial Hygiene Foundation. It is named for George and Florence Clayton, two names that are not only synonymous with the industrial hygiene profession but also instrumental in shaping AIHA. They are among the early pioneers of the profession and have made it their lifelong work to ensure recognition of industrial hygiene as a career. Their lives are intimately entwined with AIHA because they have been major players in the association's history. The Claytons used part of their residence as the association's early headquarters in 1955. Since the early days of AIHA, George and Florence have been laying the groundwork for the continuation of industrial hygiene.

George and Florence Clayton, employees of Clayton Environmental Consultants Inc., and other individual donors have been very generous in creating this scholarship opportunity and have asked that it be made available to a deserving student and rotate among three schools: the University of Alabama at Birmingham, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University.

The AIHF TSI, Inc. & Arthur J. Abrams Scholarship

Recent Awardees
2002 - Dang Nguyen
See all awardees

AIHF TSI, Inc. & Arthur J. Abrams Scholarship is to be awarded to a student at an ABET-accredited college or university in Minnesota or a northeastern state for applied research in industrial hygiene. This would require that the scholarship be awarded later in the academic career so the research could be evaluated. Career changers are an important target group for the TSI, Incorporated & Arthur J. Abrams Scholarship. Abrams' daughter Judith made this type of change in her 30s and found great satisfaction in her new career. It is because of Art's love and support for his daughter as she made this difficult decision, as well as his own career change (made in his mid-40s) that brought him into our industry, that an emphasis on changing careers is a part of this scholarship's criteria.
