Programs and Degrees

The following degrees are offered in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences:

Master of Public Health

The M.P.H. program is aimed primarily at graduates in the natural and applied sciences who expect to go on to careers as practitioners and leaders in one or more of the fields of applied environmental and/or occupational health. In many cases, these individuals intend to achieve professional certifications. The M.P.H. is offered in the following areas:

Master of Science

The M.S. program is aimed primarily at graduates in the natural and applied sciences who intend to go on to careers in research and development in one or more the areas of environmental and/or occupational health. The M.S. is often a precursor to the doctoral degree.

Doctor of Philosophy

The Ph.D. program is aimed at graduates in the natural and applied sciences who wish to go on to scientific research and leadership careers in the areas of environmental and occupational health.

Supplemental Programs

Students can choose to pursue one of several certificate programs after being admitted to EHS (or other School of Public Health departments). These School-wide concentrations include:

  • Certificate in Global Health: Provides an opportunity to gain an understanding of the globalization of the world's economies, cultures, production systems, transnational policies, and increasingly-shared environments.
  • Certificate in Health Care Infection Prevention & Control (CHIP): Provides students with the training necessary to become part of a HAI preventio nand control team post-graduation
  • Health Informatics Certificate: The program combines SPH's expertise in epidemiology, health management and policy, health behavior and health education with SI's expertise in the design and evaluation of information systems and services.
  • Public Health Genetics: Provides an opportunity to gain an understanding of the effects of genes on health and disease and to apply genetic information to public health practice.
