The Atmospheric Deposition Study of PCBs, Mercury and Cadmium
The Atmospheric Deposition Study of PCBs, Mercury and Cadmium focuses on quantifying
the atmospheric deposition of polychloronated bi-phenyls (PCBs), mercury and cadmium in the
City of Detroit, and in determining the relative contributions of atmospheric deposition to
mass loadings at the Detroit Wastewater Treatment Plant (DWWTP). The specific compounds of
interest include Aroclor 1242, 1254 and 1260, mercury and cadmium. This study is designed
to assess and quantify the atmospheric deposition of these compounds and their subsequent run-off
into Detroit's Wastewater collection system due to wet weather events. The study area is limited
to the City of Detroit, and excludes the remaining metropolitan area. Participants in the study include
the consulting firm of McNamee, Porter and Seeley, the University of Michigan, the University of
Minnesota, Illinois Institute of Technology, the University of Maryland and the Illinois State
Water Survey. (Taken from Atmospheric Deposition Study of PCBs, Mercury and Cadmium: Workplan
