Message from the Director

Hal Morgenstern"The Graduate Summer Session provides a stimulating curriculum involving a broad spectrum of courses concerned with the principles, methods and applications of epidemiology. This unique three-week program started in 1965, and the University of Michigan School of Public Health has been privileged to serve as the host institution since 1988. Participating faculty are experienced and respected professionals from universities and public-health agencies throughout the United States and other countries. Students may register for courses that provide academic credits toward graduate degrees. In addition, participants may seek certification of academic competencies in epidemiology. Certification requires completion of an 12-credit-hour curriculum that is completed over a period of two or more summer sessions. The curriculum of required and elective courses has been designed to facilitate a career path in academia, industry, or various types of public-health agencies at the local, state, federal, or international level. Finally, the informal environment during the summer encourages constructive interactions with faculty and other students from diverse settings and cultures."

Hal Morgenstern, Ph.D., Director
