On October 12, 2012, Dr. Ana Diez Roux welcomed Epidemiology Alumni to a Fall Homecoming Reception, held in the Community Lounge of the SPH Crossroads building. Over 50 alumni, faculty, and students attended the event. Great conversation, food, and fun were had by all!

HistoryDr Thomas Francis

Welcome to the Department of Epidemiology's alumni website! The UM SPH Department of Epidemiology was founded in 1942 with Dr. Thomas Francis Jr. as Chair, making ours one of the oldest epidemiology departments in the country. In over 60 years of the department's existence we have granted masters and doctoral degrees to over 2100 students, generating a richly diverse group of alumni. The department has also grown substantially over time; in 1945 we graduated five students, and in the 2011-2012 school year one hundred ten students graduated, reflecting the tremendous increase in students, faculty, research, and resources in the department.

Be Involved!

Graduation PhotoWe consider our alumni a valuable asset and want to keep our alumni informed about the many activities of the Department of Epidemiology. As the department continues to grow, we wish to create more opportunities for our students during their graduate training and afterwards as they head out into the job market. As such, we would like to hear from you if your workplace might sponsor a summer internship for an epidemiology graduate student (PDF, 7MB). Please send us an email if you have potential job openings for our graduates. There are several epidemiology scholarship funds to which you may contribute, as well. Finally, we always appreciate you sending us highly qualified students who may wish to pursue graduate studies in epidemiology at a great institution like the University of Michigan, School of Public Health.

New Mentoring Program

We know the feeling: you don't have a lot of time, but you want to do something meaningful to help the school that provided such a great education. Well, here's your chance. The U-M School of Public Health's current epidemiology students could use your help in launching their careers, and all it will cost you is about 10 hours per term - and maybe an occasional cup of coffee.
