Faculty & Research

For more than a century, the University of Michigan has distinguished itself in both teaching and research in public health, carrying out pathbreaking work in areas as diverse as vaccine research and atmospheric transport of pollutants, public health genetics and problems of the uninsured. We aspire to be a crossroads of knowledge from the biological, physical, social, and managerial sciences, developing a holistic understanding of the health of populations and creating viable approaches to solving their problems.

Professor studies malaria across cultures and departments

Photo of Dr. Mark Wilson with mapThrough the MCubed program, Dr. Mark Wilson is collaborating across departments to evaluate the effectiveness of malaria treatment and prevention measures. "We’re generating knowledge that should have an immediate impact on policy. We expect this research will alter availability of treatment and improve the effectiveness of it at a local and eventually national level, and that’s the ultimate goal," Wilson says.

Wilson, who has a joint appointment as a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology in LSA and professor of epidemiology in the School of Public Health, travels often. He regularly visits Malawi, Kenya, and Ghana to work on public health projects of his own and to assist Master of Public Health students in their international internships and studies.
