Introduction Needs Assessment

An assessment of student and faculty interest in the development of a new curriculum is an important indicator of program support. In 1995, the students and faculty, across departments, in the School of Public Health, were surveyed regarding their interest in the development of a new offering in public health genetics.

Students completed a brief survey that asked about the importance of the new curriculum and whether they would consider adding it to their academic plan. They were also asked about the number of undergraduate biology and/or genetics courses they had taken. Faculty interest was surveyed as well, along with any insight they might have on available teaching resources in genetics. Both students and faculty supported the development of a new curriculum in public health genetics.
