Cathryn Hufford Bock"Participating the PHGIC enhanced my experiences in the School of Public Health in many ways. In addition to allowing me to pursue my interest in genetics in the context of public health, the IC also afforded the opportunity to interact and develop friendships with students from departments other than my own. In addition to the core classes, I really enjoyed the less structured activities sponsored by the IC, including the lunchtime speakers and discussions, social events, and informal gatherings with visiting leaders in the field. Furthermore, the IC faculty were very helpful during my searches for internship and career opportunities."

Cathryn Hufford Bock, MPH '98
Doctoral Candidate, Department of Epidemiology

Susan Beth Metosky"Being a student in the Genetics IC strongly enhanced my experience as a student in the School of Public Health on an academic and social level. I was able to apply my first year course work during my summer internship at the National Human Genome Research Institute. Through contact with faculty members, I worked on projects such as the "Prostate Cancer Genetics Projects" and "Public Health Genetics: An Education Model." I had an opportunity to interact with faculty members and students from all five departments with the School of Public Health. As a student in the IC I also had the opportunity to present at the Third Annual Conference in Genetics and Public Health as well as the NIH ELSI Decade of Research Conference. This is a fascinating time for the field of public health genetics!"

Leslie Ain McClure"As a student in Biostatistics, I had fewer opportunities to meet students in other departments. Being in the IC, I not only had the opportunity to enrich my genetics education, I was also able to increase the amount of interaction I had with students throughout the entire school. The IC has helped me to gain the skills necessary to communicate with both genetics and public health professionals."

Leslie Ain McClure
Doctoral Candidate, Department of Biostatistics

Mary Grace Brandt"I think the IC is important in that it provides a unique opportunity for students from all public health departments to converge to share insight and perspective on a topic that is necessary. Genetic technology is advancing with such great speed-we need more forums such as the IC to compile resources so as to train public health practitioners and researchers to understand the completeness of its impact on health care-from practice to policy."

Mary Grace Brandt, MPH '02
Department of Epidemiology

Charle Krafchak"One of the most valuable aspects of the IC is the chance we students have to work with pioneers on the cutting edge of public health work in the post-genomic sequence era. The sequenced human genome will give us the tools necessary to learn things about disease in populations-things we never could have dreamed of 10 or 15 years ago. This is what makes the IC such an exciting place to learn!"
