Evaluation of Genomic Applications in Practice and Prevention (EGAPP)
EGAPP is a three-year project developed by the Office of Genomics and Disease Prevention at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The goal of the project is to develop a process for evaluating genetic tests and other genomic applications. The Center for Public Health and Community Genomics has been responsible for developing recommendations for engaging stakeholders and disseminating EGAPP findings. The Center for Public Health and Community Genomics has carried out the following activities:
- Conducted informal interviews with nine stakeholder organizations and produced a report of findings for the EGAPP Working Group;
- Established the Stakeholder Advisory Group on EGAPP (SAGE), a formal group of key stakeholders who will provide feedback on translational materials to be created by the EGAPP Working Group, EGAPP Subcommittees, and Centers for Genomics and Public Health; advise on EGAPP dissemination strategies and aid in dissemination of EGAPP pre-products, reports, and translational materials to constituents; comment on and recommend additions to EGAPP and EGAPP related websites; and assist in EGAPP evaluation as needed.
- Conducted a literature review to identify current and past practices in the creation of recommendations and dissemination to stakeholder groups; assess the evidence supporting practices of translation and dissemination to identify validated processes relevant to EGAPP activities; examine the roles that stakeholder groups have held in other processes similar to EGAPP; and identify social and behavioral theory related to the creation and dissemination of EGAPP recommendations.
