Application Procedure

Those wishing to make application must submit a complete application form, a non-refundable application fee, and supporting materials, including official transcripts and recommendations. Applicants must also submit scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination taken within the past five years.

Application Deadline

The Department admits students sequentially. To ensure consideration, application materials for the Ph.D. degree should be received by December 1. Fall 2009 applications to the M.P.H. program will be available through Sophas (Schools of Public Health Application Service) beginning in September, 2008. The Fall 2009 priority deadline for the M.P.H. program will be December 15, 2008 and the secondary deadline will be February 15, 2009.

Admission Requirements

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required of all applicants. In the selection process, emphasis is placed on sound scholarship and promise of development together with the content of the prospective student's previous academic program. Applicants should have substantial college preparation in the social sciences, with good overall academic performance. Biological science preparation is recommended. Those who also possess three or more years of full-time prior experience and/or prior professional preparation in one of the health or social science disciplines are especially welcome as applicants. Applicants who believe they have unique personal circumstances must describe and submit these in writing if they wish them to be taken into account by the admissions panel.

Applications will not be considered and acted upon until all required materials (transcripts, GREs, references, etc.) have been received.

Students are ordinarily admitted to the program for the Fall Term.
