ANNA BOONIN (’06)
Anna married Matya Gilbert-Schachter on January 20, 2008 in Philadelphia, PA. HBHE graduates in attendance were Hsing-Fang Hsieh and Lee Ewing; Marci Getz was unable to attend. Anna currently works as a research coordinator and smoking cessation counselor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine's Tobacco Use Research Center. Matya, a Toronto native, works as a bond trader in Philadelphia. He graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he studied physics and applied mathematics.
JOHANNA CHAPIN ('01)
Johanna and her husband Steve have two children. Catherine, born August 25, 2005, and Bridget, born June 14, 2007. After 5 years at the CDC in Atlanta, Johanna is taking some years off to be a full-time parent.
KIMBERLY M. COLEMAN (’02)
In January 2008, Kimberly became a joint-appointed Assistant Professor of Community Health Education/Health Behavior with the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health and the College of Health Sciences at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA.
KIM (VANWALLBECK) CUSSANS(’88)
Kim was married to David Cussans in 1999. They met in Geneva Switzerland, and were engaged. They moved to Bristol, UK, where David is a physicist with the University of Bristol. They have a 4 year old son named Evan.
PATRICIA HEILER
Patricia has accepted a Public Health Consultant Position with the Michigan Public Health Institute and will be working at the Michigan Dept. of Community Health in Lansing.
EMILY GOULD HIRSCHBEIN (‘98)/ HILLEL HIRSCHBEIN (‘01)
Emily Gould Hirshbein (U of M Residential College 1994,Columbia JD, 2004) and Hillel Hirshbein (U of M SSW 2001) are currently living in New York City where Emily is a trusts and estates attorney and Hillel was recently promoted to Chief of Staff of JBFCS, a large non-for-profit mental health and human service agency. The family celebrated the 1st birthday of their 1st child, Hannah Josephine on March 5, 2008. Both can be reached at gouldhirshbein@hotmail.com.
ANICA MADEO(’07)
When Anica Madeo graduated with her MPH last year, she hadn't yet announced to her classmates that she and her husband Eric Pinaud were expecting a baby. On November 24, 2007 Maxence Michel Pinaud was born weighing 8lbs, 11oz and measuring 21 inches long. Arriving over two weeks before his due date, Max was delivered by the midwives at the University of Michigan Birth Center. Anica is currently working at Migrant Health Promotion and they live in Ann Arbor.
KAREN (SCHIEFERSTEIN) MUNOZ (’02)
Karen recently accepted a Health Analyst position in the Clinical Program Development department of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan.
SANDRA (REYES) RAY (‘01)
Sandra was married in May 2007. In June 2007, she started working for the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists in Park Ridge IL, where she is a Practice Analyst and works on researching trends and clinical issues that impact the practice of nurse anesthetists in the US. She and her husband Michael live in Chicago. He is an editor at the Encyclopedia Britannica, “which means people always are more interested in his job than hers at parties”. He's an MSU alum, but “she doesn't hold it against him”.
TAMI RITSEMA(’93)
Tami practices as a physician assistant in the departments of Emergency Medicine and Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She also teaches in the Physician Assistant Program at George Washington University and is an invited speaker for the national conference for the United Kingdom Association of Physician Assistants in July 2008.
MARIANNA SASCHE ('06)
In May 2007 Marianna married her best friend Nathan Arbitman who was in the Erb Institute while she was at SPH/SSW. They have settled in Philadelphia where they adopted a crazy yet wonderful dog. In August, she started working for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. In all, it has been a wonderful year!
HOLLY SCHEIB
Holly is in her 4th year of the PhD program in International Health and Development at Tulane's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She reports that she survived Katrina and the Flood, although it changed everything about their lives. She writes: “I completely changed my dissertation and started over after the storm, working as a volunteer translator and advocate with newly arrived Latinas in the area. With other area parents, we founded and opened a pre-school, Abeona House, (www.abeonahouse.org) the first new school to open after the storm. Last summer, Abeona House was honored as a "New Orleans' success story" by a local community paper. Our children Will (age 4) and Kate (age 22 months) still attend and my husband Paul is the acting President of the Board of Directors.
Holly is currently on the Advisory Board for the Latino Health Access Network, an area health advocacy and education group, and coordinate a working group of health providers who serve Latino clients. Most recently, she was recognized as a 2008-2009 Schweitzer Fellow and will conduct her Fellowship project within the Latino community, building on her experiences and current efforts.
MELISSA (DUCKER) SCHON (’04)
Melissa was married to Aaron Schon in November 2007. She is currently working as a Pre-Award Specialist at University of Michigan Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, in Ann Arbor.
MICHELLE SEGER (‘97)
After graduating from HBHE in 1997, Michelle earned her PhD in psychology from UM in 2006. Her research focused on creating sustainable exercise behavior among midlife women. Her dissertation was awarded the Distinguished Student Outstanding Dissertation Award (2008), Society of Behavioral Medicine. She is the founder of EssentialSteps™.
SARI (BLOOM) SHUMAN, (’01)
Sari and her husband, Paul, welcomed a baby boy on July 3, 2007.

Liz reports that she has a new position as Publications Manager at The HealthCare Chaplaincy.
ALBERT LEE WILSON(’68)
Albert Wilson retired in 1996 after a successful career in health education and dental health at the Kentucky State Department of Health, in Frankfort, Kentucky. Since retirement he has served Kentucky as a long-term care insurance specialist for National Health Administrators, Dallas. He and his wife, a retired R.N. have two daughters and four young grand-children.
