HEALTH EDUCATION & BEHAVIOR is the official publication of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). The journal publishes authoritative and practical information on critical health issues for a broad range of professionals interested in understanding factors associated with health behavior and health status, and strategies to improve social and behavioral health. The journal is interested in articles directed toward researchers and/or practitioners in health behavior and health education. Empirical research, case studies, program evaluation, literature reviews, and articles discussing theories are regularly published . Each manuscript submitted is expected to include a section discussing implications for practitioners in the reported work. If a study assesses an intervention, a description of the intervention should be included in the manuscript.

Every issue of the Journal includes a section on Practice Notes. This section includes descriptions of innovative efforts to prevent disease or promote health. Submission information and examples can be found by clicking here.

The Journal also includes a Perspective section. This section is designed for manuscripts that are more spectulative or have fewer empirical data to support an interesting idea. A perspective paper is published with a commentary from an expert in the field who raises issues and questions. Past Perspectives papers have included topics such as innovative approaches to intervention design, application of theories of power to health education, and the use of a constructivist paradigm for health promotion. Authors should send manuscripts for consideration to the Journal to the editor.

Book reviews are also published periodically in the Journal. Contact the Editor if you would like to have a book reviewed or if you would like to review a book.

The Journal also includes two types of special issues: 1) open call for papers on a specific theme (e.g., lay health workers, community-based interventions in urban settings) and 2) particular set of authors and papers organized around a specific content area or methodology. Click here for submission information for a special issue. Contact Barbara Israel, Deputy Editor, Health Education & Behavior, Department of Health Behavior and Health Education School of Public Health, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2029 for information regarding a special issue for an open call on a specific theme.
