Examining health-related issues from more perspectives, for innovative solutions.

The dual degree Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) and Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program provides students with a skill-based education focused on the many intersections of health and social work.  Students in this program will have the opportunity to examine health-related issues from the perspectives of social and economic justice and empowerment.  This program will help students to think through innovative approaches to help reduce and eliminate oppressive health conditions.  Students may choose to center their studies on Health Behavior and Health Education as it relates to Community Organization, Interpersonal Practice, Management of Human Services, or Social Policy and Evaluation.

In addition to preparing students to apply theoretical and research methods, the dual degree M.P.H. & M.S.W. program facilitates direct practice experiences to enabling networking and greater understanding of how different health organizations interact within the fields of public health and social work.  Students pursuing the program will have the opportunity to participate in two in-depth field experiences during their two and a half year program. These experiences help inform individuals about the direction of their professional careers, and in addition to faculty support and interdisciplinary course work, make the University of Michigan dual degree program an outstanding educational opportunity.
