Detroit Community-Academic
Urban Research Center (URC)

The Detroit Community-Academic Urban Research Center (URC) was established in 1995 as part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 'Urban Research Centers Initiative.' The Detroit URC develops, implements, and evaluates interdisciplinary, collaborative, community-based participatory research and intervention projects that aim to improve the health of communities in the southwest and east sides of Detroit. The Detroit URC involves collaboration among the University of Michigan Schools of Public Health, Nursing and Social Work, Detroit Health Department, Henry Ford Health System, and nine community-based organizations in Detroit:

  • Detroit Hispanic Development Corporation
  • Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice
  • Friends of Parkside
  • Latino Family Services
  • Neighborhood Service Organization/Harper-Gratiot Multi-Service Center

  • Warren/Conner Development Coalition
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC)
