Master Degree Programs Alumni |
HMP Alumni BoardA Message from the President It's been my privilege to serve on the Alumni Board since I graduated in 1992. During this time, the Board has provided valuable insight and guidance to the Health Management & Policy (HMP) program, assisted in recruitment and mentoring of students, and hosted the Biennial, among other contributions. I'm sure you will all appreciate what a terrific opportunity it's been for those of us on the Board to stay connected to the University, the School of Public Health and to HMP. We know that we represent a very proud group of alumns - proud of the faculty, proud of our fellow alumns, and most of all, proud of our students. All of us would surely agree that Michigan is a very special place, notwithstanding the losses of the last several years to that team from Columbus. Borrowing a phrase, I am here to tell you that the state of our program is very strong. The program continues to achieve the number one rating among Health Administration graduate programs while the faculty perform exemplary research and impart their wisdom onto a new class every year. Our students are the best and the brightest (in fact, when provided with incoming class profiles more than one Board member has been heard to awkwardly comment that they would not likely be admitted to the program today). Given this wonderful platform, our Alumni Board has reconsidered its role in ensuring the ongoing success of the program. The goal of this self-examination was to identify how alumni, through the Board structure, could be even more effective and involved advocates. In conjunction with Paula Lantz, our very talented Chair, and Jim Fitzgerald, our Executive-in-Residence, we decided to take a hard look at our mission, our structure and our levels of participation. The result is the proposal you find herein. We hope you'll take the time to look over this proposal for Board re-organization and decide if you like it. In accordance with our bylaws, we are soliciting your vote. We will close the vote on September 15, 2007. And, before I forget, we are also looking for your help in staffing the new proposed committee structure. Please consider your involvement and commitment to our fine program and join us if you can. Best regards, |
