Core Curriculum


MHSA and MPH

The Department of Health Management and Policy offers a core multidisciplinary and integrated curriculum for the MPH and MHSA degrees.  All students working towards the MPH or MHSA degree take a set of courses designed to provide a deep education in the issues, skills and competencies necessary for leaders in the field of health management and policy.  The core curriculum involves 38 credits, as described below:

In addition to the core curriculum, students must take one or two additional required courses depending upon their degree choice:

  • MHSA students take Managerial Accounting (HMP 606) and Corporate Finance (HMP 607)
  • MPH students take either Cost-Effectiveness and Cost-Benefit Analysis (HMP 610) or Program Evaluation in Public Health (HMP 640)

There is some flexibility and choice for students within the required courses in the core curriculum.  In addition, students can tailor their elective course choices to their interests and specific career goals.  Please view the sample curricula on the right for different degrees and career paths.
