EPID607 Applied Epidemiology for Public Health Practice

| Description: This course will address the role of the epidemiologist in the provision of personal and preventive health services in the public health practice setting. Emphasis will be on developing an understanding of the biomedical basis and applied use of these services with particular attention to communicable disease surveillance, immunizations, and sexually transmitted disease services. The effect of changing funding streams, managed care, and the role of federal, state and local political, health, and community agencies in determining service mix and content will also be discussed. Students will have the opportunity to directly participate in service provision in their area of interest and will be expected to develop a semester project addressing a specific public health practice problem. |
