- Helped develop Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI), federally mandated
evaluation of nursing home residents, providing information on approximately 4.8 million residents per year.
- Analyzed preliminary RAI data, finding that physical and chemical
restraints increase cost of care and decrease quality of care.
- Helped develop assessment systems for home care, palliative care,
post-acute care, and mental health that coordinate with the RAI. Helped develop international version of all assessment instruments and is
working with multiple governments around
- Received contracts from the State of Michigan to study Michigan's nursing
home and home care populations and from the State of Louisiana to help
assure that disabled elders are cared for in the least restrictive setting.
