In addition to her academic appointments, Dr. Shope is director of the Center for Injury Prevention among Youth (a joint UMTRI-SPH collaboration), and the associate director of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, where she headed the Social and Behavioral Analysis Division for ten years. She has done research in health behavior, health education, and program development/evaluation, particularly in adolescent health and school health education (including substance abuse prevention). She has conducted several research projects on the driving behavior of adolescents, young adults, and older drivers.
