Research Interest & Projects
Dr. Zhang's research interests are infectious disease epidemiology, antibiotic resistance, bacterial genomics and pathogenesis, novel molecular techniques for epidemiological study. His long-term goal is to integrate molecular and population levels analyses to understand the emergence, spread and control of infectious diseases. Dr. Zhang has developed new microarray techniques to evaluate the genetic diversity of pathogenic bacterial species and implications of such diversity in disease epidemiology. He is working on various bacterial pathogens including Escherichia coli, Group B Streptococcus, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Streptococcus mutans, and Haemophilus influenzae. Genomic and bioinformatics approaches are routinely used in his research.
