Professional Summary

Dr. Valerio's interests include chronic disease management and prevention, the design and evaluation of effective health education materials and programs, and survey methods. She is particularly interested in health literacy and cultural competence issues related to health education and communication. She is also faculty with the Center for Managing Chronic Disease at the University of Michigan.

Research Interest & Projects

Dr. Valerio's research is focused on the identification of strategies for improvement of chronic disease management in marginalized and underserved populations. She is currently assessing the understanding of oral health needs of adults with type 2 diabetes and conducting an evaluation of a type 2 diabetes prevention program for adolescents.
