Policy Interventions to Reduce Youth Substance Use: The Case of Tobacco and Alcohol

Debra Bernat, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, College of Medicine at Florida State University Debra Bernat, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine at Florida State University. She earned her doctorate from the University of Minnesota in Epidemiology and Community Health and completed an interdisciplinary post-doctoral fellowship in Adolescent Health at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Bernat was the principal investigator of a New Tobacco Investigator Award funded by ClearWay Minnesota to examine the effects of Minnesota's statewide smoke-free law on youth. She has also been co-investigator on several other federal and state research projects focusing on how policy interventions change adolescent substance use behavior and related outcomes, with a particular emphasis on tobacco and alcohol.
