Using E-mail Updates to Stay InformedManaging Your E-mailDo not store your messages in your e-mail inbox on a long-term basis. Maintain an archive folder of messages that might be useful in the future. Remember to review and purge these folders on a regular basis. A growing number of public health organizations and government agencies provide an option for individuals to receive e-mail updates. Individuals can sign up for these e-mail updates to notify them of public health news. For example, you can sign up at Grants.gov to receive grant opportunity email alert. The e-mail updates may be daily, weekly, monthly, or only when there are new announcements. The volume of e-mail generated from these e-mail updates tends to be considerably lower and more predictable than the e-mail traffic from discussion lists. Some of the e-mail updates are from specific organizations such as the press releases from the US Department of Health and Human Services or the weekly Association of Schools of Public Health Friday Letter; other lists are subject-specific such as the South Asian Public Health Forum. Take some time to explore the selected examples of public health related e-mail updates.
