The Lexile Framework for Reading Educators
The Lexile Framework® for Reading is a widely adopted method to measure
reader ability and text difficulty created by MetaMetrics, a privately held
educational measurement firm. Their research and development efforts were
initially funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development (NICHD). Their site contains resource kits on using their
methodology, tips for professional development for educators, and
information for parents and families to use the methodology outside of the
classroom. The site also has a searchable book database to locate
materials for specific reading levels, an analyzer to assess the level of
your written materials, and a calculator to help educators assess
comprehension rates and reading abilities.
