The Bureau of Justice Statistics provides statistics on a variety of topics including crimes, victims, criminal offenders, law enforcement, expenditures, and more. All topics include a summary sheet of the most recent data. Health related issues include HIV status, mental health treatment, and the medical problems of inmates. Data is available for analysis online, in spreadsheets, or downloadable data sets.
Statistics include:
- Drugs and Crime: data on the relationship between substance abuse and crime, substance abuse by criminals, and the efficacy of substance abuse treatment programs related to criminal behavior.
- Firearms and Crime: data on both the national and state level on crimes involving a firearm.
- HIV in Prisons: data on the prevalence and incidence of HIV in prison populations.
- Mental Health Treatment in Prisons: data on psychological screening, evaluation and treatment of patients in state prisons.
