http://wonder.cdc.gov/
CDC WONDER is a collection of public health reports and data managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The reports and data are grouped into topics and an A-Z Index is provided for easy access. The broad topics include - Chronic Diseases, Health Practice and Prevention, Communicable Disease, Injury Prevention, Environmental Health, and Occupational Health. Due to the wide variety of information that is presented, and the numerous centers that are submitting the data, data is presented in many forms such as reports in HTML and PDF, and statistical spreadsheets.
Reports and data included:
- Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR): CDC WONDER provides links to the current MMWR as well as to a searchable database of past issues of MMWR. There is also a link to Morbidity and Mortality tables, which presents MMWR data in table form. The tables can be searched based on week, year and geographic location.
- Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS): The BRFSS is a searchable database of health behavior statistics that can be limited by year and geographical location.
- Healthy People 2010: Healthy People 2010 will allow you to access raw data from a wide variety of surveys and studies in order to create tables. You can find data based on its source, its objective, a keyword search, or by population group.
Overall, the amount of data on this site is immense. CDC WONDER provides a centralized source of health data as well as an easy way to search for specific health topics with which CDC is involved. Once you find the specific topic they are searching for, CDC WONDER either provides the data, or in most cases, links you to the database, Center, or Institute that would provide you with the best information. Due to the size of the CDC, the many health topics that it researches, and the many centers and institutes that comprise it, CDC WONDER provides the user with a simple way to sift through the data that is available.
