U.S. Census Bureau
American FactFinder provides access to quick, easy to understand data as well as the opportunity to conduct more specific, limited data searches. From American FactFinder, you can access quick information from links about Population , People, Housing, Business and Government, as well as a general fact sheet. These links provide data in the form of tables, maps, and reports. American FactFinder also provides a link to Datasets. From this link you can search datasets from either the Census 2000 Summary File 100 percent data, which contains data from all households, or the Census 2000 Summary File Sample Data whic h contains data from a 1-6 sample that has been weighted to represent the entire population. You can choose the scope of the search by limiting the geographic area of the data set needed (i.e. national, state, county, zip code). After selecting the geographic area of interest, you can search any of the many tables and maps compiled by the Census Bureau. Through this function, you can also create custom tables of data using any of the Census Bureau's tables. On the American FactFinder site, there is also a link to Tools. On the Tools page there is a link to the Census Bureau's DataFerrett. This is a downloadable program that allows you to access the DataWeb, a collaboration between the U.S. Census Bureau and the CDC. The DataFerrett program allows youto search the DataWeb for customizable variables. A search through the DataWeb provides the DataFerrett with access to demographic, health, economic and environmental data from a wide variety of organizations. Essentially, the DataFerrett conducts a search that would normally require you to access each of the organizations individually. You can take the data that the search has yielded and create tables and graphs. On the Tools page, you can access quick data on the national, state, county, and the city level. There are several programs that can be downloaded that allow you to enter, tabulate, map, and perform other census and/or survey functions. There is also a link to the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series. From this web page (after registering), you can specifically request what data is needed and download the data in SPSS or SAS format. American FactFinder also includes a link to the Download Center This provides you access to the 2000 census datasets in both .pdf and Microsoft Excel formats. |
