News Release

Jenifer Martin named Director of Government Relations at UM SPH

March 1 , 2005 press release from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

University of Michigan School of Public Health Dean Noreen Clark has announced that Jenifer Martin , J.D., is Director of Government Relations for the University of Michigan School of Public Health. This new role supplements her ongoing roles as Associate Director of the University of Michigan Bioterrorism Preparedness Initiative and Administrator of the Michigan Center for Public Health Preparedness.

As Director of Government Relations, Martin develops advocacy strategies to promote and advance the School of Public Health research and training expertise to federal agencies, the U.S. Congress, and the State of Michigan. She develops advocacy materials and regularly briefs our Michigan congressional delegation and staff regarding ongoing SPH activities and priorities.

Martin joined UM SPH in June 2002 after spending 13 years in Washington, D.C. in various legislative capacities. Most recently, she was a Senior Associate at the DC law firm of Verner, Liipfert, where she represented clients before the United States Congress and the Administration. She worked closely with the firm's co-chairs – two former Senate Majority Leaders – Senators Bob Dole and George Mitchell. Prior to working in the law firm, she worked on Capitol Hill for Representative Jose E. Serrano and for Senator Paul Simon on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and in the Clinton White House.

This is a new position at SPH that reports to the Dean, and works closely with the Associate Dean for Research.
