Dean Ken Warner announces new administrative appointments.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--University of Michigan School of Public Health Dean Ken Warner has announced changes in the dean's office, effective July 1 2005:
- Dean Smith will serve as Senior Associate Dean
for Administration, a new position created to enhance handling of financial and administrative affairs.
- Edith Parker will serve as Associate Dean for
Academic Affairs, focusing on
academic programming and student affairs.
Below, please find descriptions of these administrators and their experience.
Dean Smith is a professor in the UM SPH Department of Health Management & Policy whose research focuses on the financial aspects of working with and working in health care delivery and financing organizations. He has
served as a director on the boards of managed care organizations and
was the founding President/CEO of Good Health Michigan, Inc., a
Michigan Medicaid qualified health plan. He has a Ph.D. in economics from Texas A&M University and an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Michigan. Until his appointment as UM SPH Senior Associate Dean
for Administration, he was chairman of the Department of Health Management & Policy.
Edith Parker is an associate professor in the UM SPH Department of Health Behavior & Health Education whose research focuses on the development, implementation, and
evaluation of community-based participatory interventions to improve
health status. In Detroit,
Michigan, she is involved in community-based participatory
research projects focusing on women's and children's health, and on
childhood asthma and issues of environmental justice. Professor Parker has
Dr.P.H. and M.P.H. degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a
B.A. from Davidson College.
