ANN ARBOR, Mich.--Approximately 150 second-year master's-degree students from the University of Michigan School of Public Health shared photos and findings from their summer internships and field experiences at an afternoon poster session on October 9, 2009. Three of the school's five academic departments hosted the event throughout the first and second floors of UM SPH's Crossroads building. Students, faculty, and members of the public sipped punch, browsed the aisles of posters, and discussed the fieldwork carried out in far corners of the globe, as well as rural and urban areas throughout Michigan and the United States.
"It was great to see the wide variety of field experiences that the students had, and the discussions and ideas that could be overheard all afternoon were fun and inspiring," said Sue Crawford, Student Administrative Coordinator in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. EHS presented poster awards to 4 students in the department, including:
- FIRST PLACE: Robert Kelly, Reduction of Asthma Symptoms and Medical Care Visits for Children of Low to Moderate Income Families
- SECOND PLACE (TIE):
Blaire Jarvie, The University of Michigan Adult Bariatric Surgery
Program
AND
Nicole Piazza, Food Gatherers: One Carrot Goes a Long Way
- STUDENT CHOICE AWARD: Laura Maurer, 3-Nitropropionic Acid Induces Mitochondrial
