UM SPH Dean Position Announcement

The University of Michigan invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the School of Public Health.

Established in 1941, the School of Public Health has long been recognized as one of the world's leading public health research and educational institutions. The school has an outstanding faculty of 130 members, a committed research and administrative staff of nearly 300, and approximately 850 students enrolled in master's and doctoral degree programs through its five departments, interdepartmental concentrations, and joint-degree programs with a number of the university's 18 other schools and colleges.

The dean is the chief academic and administrative leader of the school, reports to the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, and works collaboratively with faculty and staff to advance the school's mission of creating and disseminating knowledge to prevent disease and promote health. Additionally, the dean is responsible for all matters relative to the administration of the school including academic programs, faculty, staff, students, facilities, budget, alumni relations and fundraising. Finally, the dean represents the school within the university to create synergistic collaborations with other schools and colleges, as well as externally to promote the school as a leader in public health policy, practice and research in the state of Michigan, nationally and globally.

The ideal candidate will possess the following: national/international recognition as a scholar with a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree; credentials commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment in the School of Public Health; administrative experience; a collegial, consultative and collaborative orientation; an ability to recruit and retain outstanding faculty; a global perspective; a fundamental commitment to diversity; an appreciation of and commitment to the effective use of laboratory and information technology in education and research; and an ability to champion public health education, research and service within a preeminent research institution and among a wide range of external constituencies.
