USAID at 50: Share a Story

In 1961, John F. Kennedy called for the creation of a new agency aimed at overcoming global poverty, hunger, illness, and injustice. Having seen the ruins of war in Europe—and the Marshall Plan’s success in helping to rebuild the continent—Kennedy argued that the goal of advancing opportunity and freedom to the world’s people was central to America’s domestic security, comparative prosperity, and national conscience. The agency that sprang from his call—the United States Agency for International Development—celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

To mark the occasion, the spring 2012 issue of Findings will feature a special section on SPH graduates who’ve been affiliated with USAID. If you’re one of them, we want to hear from you! Tell us where you served and when, what you did, and how the experience changed you. Send your story to sph.findings@umich.edu. Feel free to add comments here as well.
