All of our programs feature a mix of support for the organization hosting a fellow or intern and professional development for the individual being hosted. Fellows and interns contribute to a range of family planning/reproductive health and population-environment activities, such as program design, coordination, evaluation, outreach, applied (non-clinical) research, and training. In most cases, the Population Fellows Programs provide for the fellow or intern's salary and benefits, with other support being provided by the host agency. The main differences among our various programs from the host agency's standpoint are the level of prior training the intern or fellow has had, the relative ratio of support offered to professional development received, the duration of the placement, and the specific goals of the program. Appropriate host organizations come in many forms: U.S.-based international agencies and NGOs; developing-country projects and affiliates of these organizations; local, grassroots organizations; and government ministries. The main requirements for host agencies are that they offer supportive supervision, significant opportunities for professional growth, and a scope of work that offers meaningful experience in family planning or population-environment. Our placement types page provides an overview of the types of hosting arrangements available through the Population Fellows Programs. |
