Because applying for an MSI graduate internship involves a long-term commitment to the Programs (ideally a three- to nine-month internship followed by a two-year fellowship), we work individually with applicants to ensure that the experience is right for them before encouraging them to apply. If you think you might be interested in an MSI graduate internship, please contact us.

Application deadlines are April 1 and November 1 each year, but the sooner you contact us, the more time you have to assess the experience and prepare a competitive application.

Note that, like Population and Population-Environment Fellows, MSI graduate interns undergo a rigorous review process by an external Advisory Board, which is made up of leading academics and practitioners in the field. Board members select the best-qualified candidates based on applicants' academic excellence, technical skills, leadership potential, overall suitability for an overseas assignment, and commitment to a career in international family planning/reproductive health or population-environment.

The University of Michigan Population Fellows Programs are an equal opportunity employer. The University, in its employment and human resources policies and practices, will not discriminate against any individual because of race, sex, color, religion, creed, national origin or ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender non-conforming behavior, gender expression, gender identity, disability, special disabled veteran and Vietnam-era veteran status, and height or weight, except as allowed by the need for bona fide occupational qualifications. Reasonable accommodation will also be provided to persons with disabilities, to disabled veterans, and to accommodate religious practice.
