The MSI undergraduate internship provides a structured, professional learning experience under the direction of a committed mentor and exposes MSI undergraduates to leading organizations, projects, and professionals. They also help pave the way for students to apply to relevant graduate programs, as well as for our graduate internships and post-graduate fellowships, should they decide to pursue a career in the field. Each MSI undergraduate summer internship includes:

  • a group orientation to international population, health, and development at the University of Michigan School of Public Health;
  • a 10- to 12-week professional work experience in an organization addressing family planning, reproductive health, or population-environment issues in the developing world;
  • an entry-level professional stipend;
  • transportation to and from the placement site; and
  • modest summer housing (usually shared with other MSI interns).
