Fellows can spearhead a number of
activities designed to link family planning and environmental programming.
These include:
-
conducting formative research
to assess the feasibility and most appropriate methods of linking
these services in a given locale;
-
educating stakeholders about the
value of and options for implementing PE activities within an
organization or partnership;
-
catalyzing inter-organizational
partnerships;
-
supporting the design and implementation
of PE pilot projects or taking previous pilot projects to scale;
and
-
monitoring PE projects and evaluating
their impact.
Because fellows must have experience in both
family planning and environment, one of their most important roles
is often as a liaison between professionals in each sector. By speaking
both "languages" and understanding each sector's aims and
culture, fellows can often act as a critical interface between them.
It's important to note that fellows' host organizations and assignments
have evolved over time in response to changes in the field. The
publications
section of our Web site features the most up-to-date information
on fellows and their activities. Our annual reports and newsletters,
in particular, provide detailed descriptions of the types of projects
fellows have undertaken and how their work has impacted their host
agencies. Over time, the Population-Environment Fellows Program
has made family planning activities an explicit priority for PE
Fellows.
