Organizations interested in hosting a PEAK Fellow as a short-term visiting professional are often motivated by a desire to enhance the leadership prospects of a promising reproductive health professional from another country.

Though we currently contact organizations that we feel would provide a solid learning experience for a PEAK Fellow, we welcome expressions of interest from potential host organizations. Organizations wishing to host a PEAK Fellow should be prepared to:

  • designate a mentor who will guide the fellow’s skill development and help the fellow access useful resources and contacts;
  • work with PEAK staff to develop an appropriate scope of work that features 2-3 concrete learning objectives that the fellow can fulfill during his or her 4-12 weeks with the organization;
  • support the PEAK mission through appropriate cost-sharing arrangements (consider covering items such as in-country travel; international travel, lodging, and per diems; or workshop fees);
  • help your fellow settle in (pick him or her up from the airport, host a welcome breakfast with staff on the first day, help your fellow find suitable housing, etc.).

Though requiring an investment of time and resources, PEAK Fellows have much to offer the organizations that host them. Fellows bring with them unique programming experiences as well as in-depth knowledge of the “on-the-ground realities” of their organization and target communities. Several former supervisors were surprised to realize that they received more technical assistance than they gave, and some continue to collaborate with their former fellows on joint projects in the fellow’s region.
