Welcome to the Summer Certificate Course in International Population and Reproductive Health. The course's intensive, two-week format was created specifically to help prepare early-career professionals and graduate students for work in the field of international population, family planning, and reproductive health.

With the support of University of Michigan (U-M) faculty and guest lecturers, participants are introduced to the fundamental principles, program components, and politics of reproductive health -- including family planning, maternal and child health, STIs, HIV/AIDS, and population-environment activities. The course will introduce and build skills in needs assessment, planning, and monitoring and evaluating reproductive health programs. Participants will examine health disparities and donor priorities, as well as analyze health program data, case studies, and programming practices currently employed in resource-poor countries.

The Summer Certificate Course introduces participants to the context, tools, and programming strategies that form the foundation of work in the field of international population and reproductive health.

The course focuses on three main skill areas:

  • needs assessment,
  • strategic planning, and
  • monitoring and evaluation.

It is taught by U-M faculty and guest lecturers from leading organizations in the field.

The course meets on the University of Michigan campus, May 15-26, 2006.

The fee for this non-credit short-course is $675 for tuition and materials.
