SPH Computing Account PasswordsFaculty and staff on the SPH network usually have three passwords (students may not have all of these passwords):
Instructions are included below for changing each of these. Please see our Choosing Good Passwords page for help with choosing a good password. SPH Kerberos (UNIX and AFS) PasswordDescription: This password is associated with access to any SPH UNIX/Linux machines and files stored on the AFS fileservers in the SPH AFS cell. It is entered when logging into SPH UNIX machines via "ssh" or sitting at a Sun or Linux workstation, when uploading or modifying SPH web server files (Dreamweaver, sftp, etc), or when using the 'kinit' command. If you have a UMICH Kerberos password, your SPH Kerberos password can be set using the SPH Kerberos password reset page. Please note the password requirements described on the web page. If you do not have a UMICH Kerberos password, you can use the kpasswd command at the command prompt of an SPH UNIX/Linux system such as login.sph.umich.edu. Novell PasswordDescription: This password is used when logging in on an SPH Windows computer (at the Novell login window) and when accessing the SPH Novell servers (M:, N:, O: drives) via NetDrive or NetStorage. Your SPH Novell password can be set using the SPH Novell password reset page. Please note the password requirements described on the web page. UMICH Kerberos PasswordDescription: This password is used when reading email at mail.umich.edu, logging into login.itd.umich.edu or scs.itd.umich.edu, changing an online directory entry (http://directory.umich.edu/), when accessing the ITCS (formerly ITD) AFS/IFS directories, when using Wolverine Access, and logging in at the Campus Computing Sites (e.g. basement of SPH II) .
