Allee Regional Trainer for CDCynergy
Director of Public Health Library & Informatics, Nancy Allee, completed CDCynergy training in August, sponsored by the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) in partnership with the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NN/LM) through the National Library of Medicine.
CDCynergy is a planning tool for public health professionals working in both government (local, state, national) and non-government organizations. CDCynergy is an interactive tutorial organized to provide a step-by-step guide to help users develop, implement, and evaluate a health communications plan or other health intervention.
The tutorial includes six phases and a word processing template for writing a detailed intervention plan. The program's CD-ROM format provides quick and convenient access to case examples from existing communication campaigns, reference materials, a diverse media library, a cumulative evaluation plan, and hundreds of embedded resources to assist users through every step.
CDCynergy is used by health professionals for comprehensive program planning and grant writing. CDCynergy facilitates the use of research to describe and determine causes of health problems that will be addressed with program intervention; profile specific audiences affected by particular health problems; explore a wide range of possible strategies for addressing specific health problems; and select strategies that show the most promise for helping specific audiences.
CDCynergy focuses on the use of the most up-to-date information available to the practitioner with regards to the target population, the scope and nature of the problem to be addressed, the success or limitations associated with various behavior and communications theories and interventions, and appropriate evaluation methodologies.
The new CDCynergy training collaboration builds capacity of health educators, health sciences librarians, and public health practitioners to design effective health communications and interventions in a public health framework, guided by the principles of evidence-based practice, and utilizing electronic health information and resources.
Each CDCynergy trainer recruited by SOPHE and NN/LM must commit to delivering at least 2 CDCynergy trainings each year. All CDCynergy trainers attend an initial 2-day train-the-trainer workshop in Washington , DC , which provides an overview of the CDCynergy content and technology; information and skills-building for identifying, evaluating, selecting and filtering health information resources in an online, technology-based environment; and an opportunity to practice delivering training.
Following completion of the CDCynergy training, Allee now joins SOPHE's existing National Network of CDCynergy Trainers who serve as first-tier trainers. SOPHE provides ongoing technical support and assistance to all CDCynergy trainers and offers continuing education credit hours to workshop participants.
